Sky HD: an overview
Sky HD is a subscription-based satellite service from Sky, offering a wide range of programmes in high definition. It currently offers the widest range of high definition programming in the UK.
It requires a satellite dish and a Sky+HD box.
What does Sky HD cost?
Presuming that you already have a TV capable of displaying high definition TV, you will need to sign up for Sky (if you don’t already subscribe) and have a satellite dish and Sky+HD box installed.
You will need to subscribe to at least one standard Sky channel pack, as well as the HD pack which is an additional £10 per month.
The current cheapest package is the Sky+HD Starter package, costing £28 per month, which gets you one entertainment pack. Additional costs get you Sky Movies, Sky Sports, or additional entertainment packs. It’s worth checking the deals as they do vary from time to time.
What equipment do I need for Sky HD
All the equipment is supplied by Sky when you sign up.
To watch high definition content you need the Sky+HD box. Standard Sky boxes won’t be able to receive or record high definition programmes.
You’ll also have a satellite dish installed.
Additional equipment and costs may be required if you wish to watch Sky on more than one TV in the same household.

There are currently around 40 high definition channels on Sky. You will be able to watch whichever channels your subscription package covers.
